Does it work on scanned PDFs?

No. Scans need OCR (image-to-text). This tool only extracts existing digital text. OCR support is on the roadmap.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. PDF.js runs the extraction in your browser.

Why does the layout look off?

Text is extracted in reading order, not visual layout. Tables and multi-column layouts may need manual cleanup.

About Extract Text from PDF

Extract Text from PDF reads the text content from a text-based PDF (not scanned images) and outputs it as plain text. Page boundaries are preserved with markers. Useful for quoting from PDFs, feeding text into other tools, and quick text search. Note: scanned PDFs need OCR, not this tool. Text extraction only works for PDFs where the text is digitally encoded.
